Failure is reality

In your mind, failure may not be an option, but failure is reality. These past few months, failure has reared it’s ugly head. As you have probably seen, I haven’t written in a few months. Part of it is life happened, the other part is I didn’t want to admit that I failed exam #2 of LARE. Though it was a blow, I had the rude awakening that I can’t take on everything and succeed at it all! After I saw that I failed by only a couple of questions, I took a step back and learned the word ‘No’.

But this experience has been quite humbling. I thought I could be super woman and do it all. Maybe some can, but I got a kick to the gut when I finally realized I couldn’t.

The best part, it is OK!

Come August, I will be taking not one, but TWO exams. Not only will I retake exam #2, but I will be tackling exam #4 (Grading and Drainage). I have cut way down on overtime at work, during the week I go to the library to study so I have no distractions or interruptions at home, and with 2 dogs running around, somebody is always getting into something.

Just as Thomas Edison said about the light bulb,

‘I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.’

Hopefully it won’t take 10,000 times to pass LARE, but I have found taking on too much doesn’t work.

About the Author ()

I have been in the landscape architecture industry since 2006. I have known since I was 15, visiting Boston that I wanted to be in the design industry. My passion is design, design that somehow makes a difference in someone's life. The greatest achievement is seeing a child's eyes light up over the new park or garden you helped design for them! My other passion is photography, I am no where near a professional level, but it's a good excuse to go hiking!
